Equipment Guide

Equipment in Somni’s Engine fills passive slots that do not cost a hotbar slot. Bags add inventory space. Lights extend your sight cone. Armor and noise items change how you interact with Manics and the noise meter. This page is the equipment index from Miraheze wiki data.

Equipment is distinct from weapons. Weapons go in your hotbar. Equipment fills a passive slot and stays active as long as it is in your bag.

Bags — inventory expansion

ItemStarsEffectNotes
Backpack★★+3 SlotsMedium size, balanced
Duffel Bag★★★+6 Slots, −2 SpeedLarge capacity, movement penalty
Durapack★★★★+2 Slots, +10% ResistSmall capacity, defense bonus

Durapack (+2 slots, +10% Resist) is the hybrid pick. The resist bonus makes it worth considering over the Duffel Bag if you are running a fight session where the extra 4 slots from the Duffel are not critical.

Duffel Bag (+6 slots, −2 Speed) is the stash pick. Six extra slots matters on long runs where you are carrying med stacks and consumables for a floor 30 push. The speed penalty costs stamina on sprint sequences — budget it accordingly.

Backpack (+3 Slots) is the honest default. Three slots covers most run needs without a movement penalty.

Lights — visibility tools

ItemStarsEffectNotes
Candle★★+Orange Glow, +4 SightStealth-friendly light
Survival Lantern★★★+White Glow, +8 Sight, −1 StealthBright but reveals you

Candle gives +4 sight with an orange glow that does not aggressively reveal your position. On hide runs, this is slot 1 light.

Survival Lantern gives +8 sight with a white glow. The −1 Stealth penalty means Manics can detect you from further away in blackout rooms. Use the lantern when you need the sight cone, not when you are trying to stay quiet.

You can drop lights on the floor and they will illuminate rooms during blackouts. This is useful for coordinated squad runs where one player holds a light while others work machines.

Armor — damage reduction

ItemStarsEffectNotes
Lid Shield★★+2 Armor, +20 BlockBlocks extra damage when blocking with 2-handed weapons
Pot Helm★★★★−1 Speed, +10% Resist, −2 Sight, +5 ArmorHeavy protection, movement penalty

Lid Shield (+2 Armor, +20 Block) is a fight-column pickup. The block bonus applies when you are blocking with a two-handed weapon — useful with Sledger or Long Pipe against Manic attacks.

Pot Helm (−1 Speed, +10% Resist, −2 Sight, +5 Armor) is the tank piece. The resist bonus applies to all damage, but the speed penalty affects sprint and the sight penalty affects your detection range. Do not buy Pot Helm thinking it solves a noise problem — it does not.

Armor does not reduce noise generation. A Pot Helm player still prints Too noisy! at the same threshold as an unarmored player.

Noise items — stealth tools

ItemStarsEffectNotes
Silent Gloves★★★★+1 Stealth, +SilencedReduces weapon sound by 50%
Mittens★★★★+1 Work, +DampenReduces machine sound by 50%
Ear Muffs★★★Suppresses Noise Bar by 100%Complete silence from the noise meter

Ear Muffs suppress the noise bar completely. If you are running hide and the noise meter is the thing killing you, Ear Muffs are the answer. They do not make weapons quiet — they make the noise meter stop responding to sound you generate.

Silent Gloves (+1 Stealth, +Silenced) make you generate 50% less sound from weapons. This matters with Remmy on Eclipse night — the shotgun blast is loud, and Silent Gloves reduce the noise spike.

Mittens (+1 Work, +Dampen) make you generate 50% less sound when working on machines. If you are the designated Extract or Repair player on a stealth squad, these belong in your bag.

From the 4 September 2026 update: Silent Gloves now silence both melee and ranged weapons. This is a significant buff from the original melee-only version.

Eyewear and accessories

ItemStarsEffectNotes
Toon Glasses★★+3 AccuracyImproves aim with ranged weapons

Toon Glasses (+3 Accuracy) improves accuracy with ranged weapons. If you are running Remmy on Eclipse, this is a minor but free accuracy boost. The effect is small enough that it should not drive your equipment decisions.

Equipment combinations by role

Hide runner:

  • Candle (light)
  • Ear Muffs (noise suppression)
  • Backpack or Durapack (slots)
  • Optional: Mittens if you are on machine duty

Fight runner:

  • Lid Shield or Pot Helm (armor)
  • Silent Gloves (weapon noise reduction)

Eclipse night:

  • Remmy + Silent Gloves + Survival Lantern
  • Sweeper in bag for Ether puddles
  • Durapack over Duffel for the resist bonus

Equipment rarity and Scrap pricing

Star ratings in this guide come from Miraheze wiki data. In-zone shops sell equipment for Scrap, not Prisms. The price scales with rarity:

  • ★★ items: Backpack, Candle, Toon Glasses — cheapest tier
  • ★★★ items: Duffel Bag, Survival Lantern, Ear Muffs — mid tier
  • ★★★★ items: Durapack, Pot Helm, Silent Gloves, Mittens — uncommon

Zone shops appear every 5 floors in the current beta. If you are farming Scrap for a Durapack, check the shop before you push the next zone.

Equipment after a restart

Equipment in your bag persists after a restart. If you had a Duffel Bag equipped, you still have it. If the zone shop rotated and you need a different bag, check the next shop floor.

What is not on this list

This page covers equipment confirmed from Miraheze wiki data. If an equipment item does not appear here, it has not been verified from an official source. Placeholder entries and unconfirmed items are excluded.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Isle of Dreams runs.

What is the best bag in Somni's Engine?

Durapack for resist-heavy fight builds. Duffel Bag for maximum capacity on long runs. Backpack for balanced default.

Do Ear Muffs make you completely silent?

Ear Muffs suppress the noise bar by 100%. They do not make weapon sounds silent — they stop the noise meter from reacting to sounds you make.

What equipment helps with stealth runs?

Candle for light, Ear Muffs for noise suppression, Mittens if you are on machine duty. Avoid Survival Lantern (−1 Stealth).

Does armor reduce noise?

No. Armor (Lid Shield, Pot Helm) does not affect the noise meter. Only stealth equipment (Ear Muffs, Silent Gloves, Mittens) affects noise.

What changed with Silent Gloves in the September 2026 update?

On 4 September 2026, Silent Gloves were updated to silence both melee and ranged weapons, not just melee.
