Somni's Engine How to Beat the Wandering Engine
A badge hunt for players who can already finish machine quotas without feeding the noise meter.
The wandering engine is the named threat behind the Purple Hearted badge: “Defeat the wandering engine.” Completions sit in the rare band — about 0.9%. This is not a Zone 1 errand. If you cannot clear Extract, Repair, Scavenge, and Valves quietly, open how to hide and come back.
Purple Hearted is also a lock. Shermie costs 4300 Prisms and this badge. You cannot buy the Sherman tank with farmed currency alone. That is why this hunt exists as its own page instead of a footnote on how to farm Prisms.
We do not invent an HP bar for the wanderer. Somni Foundation has not posted one, and fake numbers help no one. We do tell you how to prepare a fight the badge implies you must win.
What we actually know
- The badge name is Purple Hearted.
- The condition is defeat, not “escape” or “witness”. You have to win the encounter.
- The spawn is rare (~0.9% win rate on the badge, which already tells you most squads never finish the commit).
- Completions exist, so the fight is possible in the current beta, not vaporware.
- The group still warns of bugs and restarts. A hitch is a reason to abort, not to rage-spend Prisms. See known bugs and beta updates.
Everything else is play pattern: bring a kit that can either stay unseen until commit, or win a loud burst.
Prep before you hunt
- Survive several zones so your perk tray is not empty. The perk tier list should already have a fight column you trust. Ear Muffs (50% noise suppress), Silent Gloves, and Whisper Tea still matter for the search.
- Hotbar a repair tool only if you still need quota during the hunt. Otherwise carry heal, light, and a real weapon. Gear rankings put Remmy (shotgun 30×8), Popket (60, two rounds), Sparket (30 plus flare), Sledger (80 daze), and Ferro-Mace (60 plus reflect while unrepaired) in this phase. Plank is a 60 one-use panic. Knife 40 and Long Pipe 50 are backups.
- Pick a toon whose ability is a stun, heal, or body-block — not a lobby emote. Loaffle heals. Magni melees and magnets machines. Carie (3000) is the teddy hug tank. Peanut (Boxed In + Fleeting Presence) is the scout who should find the wanderer, not solo it. Luckee is a wheel — leave the 777 gamble in lobby unless the squad agreed. Toasten and Nara are later kits. Shermie is the reward, not the hunter.
- Play with a squad that will not random-sprint. Use the run checklist. Controls should already be boring.
Redeem codes early so the Beta 500 is already spent on Loaffle or Magni, not mid-hunt. Farm more Prisms only if the kit itself is the hole.
Heals for a named fight: H.N.C 75, B.L.T 100 plus buff, Ether Vial half bar, Ether Pack full. Canned Tuna 15 and P.B.J 20 are not boss food. Water / Soda / Coffee / 25th Hour keep the yellow bar alive so you can leave after the commit.
Fight plan
Treat the engine like a patrol, not a room boss with a door. Wandering means it can enter your machine wing. Rules:
- Do not pull it onto an unfinished pump or Valve. Finish or abandon the machine first. Quota rules are on how to survive.
- Open with the loud kit only when the whole squad is in the same room. Staggered Popkets just feed Too noisy! for the players still hiding.
- Save toon abilities for the commit, not for a hallway flex. Cooldown spam is a wipe pattern.
- If Something Noticed You fires before you are ready, scatter to beams and reset. Re-pulling a wanderer on your terms is how rare badges get completed.
- Sledger daze is for the open, not for a solo flex. Remmy is the commit shotgun. Sparket’s flare is information and a tell — use it when the squad is already stacked.
Heal between attempts, not during the animation. HUD captures show a 200 HP player pool; that looks big until a named enemy hits twice. We still will not print a fake engine HP.
Hide plan (for the setup, not the kill)
You still need stealth to find a wanderer without dragging every add. Walk. Watch the speaker. Let the Peanut scout ping. The kill is allowed to be loud; the search should not be. This is the same split Dolly’s Factory players use on late rejects: quiet until the stun, then all damage.
If your squad cannot search quietly, you will never see the engine as a fight. You will only see it as a wipe cause. Practice on normal zones using how to survive and Getting Started until the speaker is boring.
Somni Foundation has no official Discord with spawn maps. Official links are the Roblox experience and the group. Anyone selling a “private engine server” is the imitator problem.
After the badge
Purple Hearted is a trophy and a Shermie key. It is not a win screen for the whole game. Project Eclipse (Moonie, floor 30, Witness Eclipse) is a separate fusion fight with posted HP (1000 plus 500 per extra player) — do not chain them on the same exhausted kit unless the squad is still full. Bank the win, screenshot the badge (datastores lag), reset loadout, then decide whether Shermie is tonight’s shop buy or next week’s farm.
If the badge does not grant after a kill, wait for the beta to finish saving. Restarts can eat rewards; known bugs is where we note those. Do not immediately spend Robux on a “badge pass” from a stranger.
This hunt is why people search the wiki. Most traffic will be “how to beat the engine” from squads who have not yet learned the speaker widget. Send those teammates here, then send them back to starter toons if they still sprint everywhere. The wanderer is rare. Your patience should not be.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Isle of Dreams runs.
What badge do I get for beating the wandering engine?
Purple Hearted. It is rare (~0.9%) and required to unlock Shermie. Prep with the perk list first.
Can I hide the entire engine fight?
You can hide the search. The badge says defeat, so a commit is required.
Is the engine in every zone?
Treat it as a wanderer, not a guaranteed spawn. Deep zones are the honest hunt.
Why is the win rate so low?
Open beta, noise deaths, and a real boss condition. Most players never finish a quiet quota first.
