Somni's Engine Controls
What each HUD slot does, and which buttons get you noticed.
Somni’s Engine uses standard Roblox movement plus a crowded survival HUD. This page is the input map: what the numbered hotbar does, why F sits next to the stamina bar, and which actions shout Too noisy!. Pair it with how to hide so you know when not to press anything.
We do not invent keybinds the settings menu can override. Check in-game binds if a clip you watched used a custom layout. The HUD elements below are from real runs: numbered tools, a grid inventory, a Perks tray, and a speaker widget. If a restart remaps a prompt, trust the icon on screen, then re-read beta updates.
Movement and camera
- WASD / left stick — walk. Walking is the default stealth speed.
- Sprint — spends the yellow stamina bar (captures show a pool around 150). Sprint is the most common self-inflicted noise source.
- Jump — use for furniture, not for fun. Landing can be louder than you think in wooden rooms.
- Mouse / right stick — look. Do not spin the camera in a doorway while a hunter is mid-room; you will walk without meaning to.
Shift-sprint until the stamina bar is empty is how beginners print Too noisy! in an otherwise clear hall. The survive guide treats stamina as a resource, not a movement dump. Water, Soda, Coffee, and 25th Hour put stamina back; they do not make sprint silent.
Hotbar and inventory
The lower HUD shows numbered slots and a bag grid. Number keys (or a tap on mobile) equip. We will not pretend slot 1 is always a lamp — read the icon.
Typical first-hour bar from Getting Started:
- a light or support tool
- a repair / Extract tool (charges matter; 3/3 is healthy, 0/1 means loot a replacement)
- a heal: Canned Tuna (15 HP), Ether Vial (half), H.N.C (75), or Ether Pack (full)
Fight bars add a gun. Popket is 60 damage with two rounds. Remmy is a shotgun at 30×8. Sparket is 30 plus a flare. All three are loud. Melee options: Sledger 80 with daze, Ferro-Mace 60 plus reflect while unrepaired, Long Pipe 50, Knife 40, Plank 60 as a one-use swing. Rankings live on the gear tier list.
The grid under the hotbar holds stacks: food, spare lights, backpacks, toon items. Reloading or swapping in a chase is how people die with a P.B.J in their hand. Equip the tool you mean to use before Something Noticed You is on screen.
A Sweeper is a job tool, not a weapon. It helps clean Ether puddles on Extract machines. Keep it reachable when the quota is Extract-heavy; park it when you are hunting the engine.
Ability button and F
Toons have an ability on a cooldown. Captures show Ability on cooldown! stacked three times when a squad mashes in one room. Wait. Mashing does not shorten it and can add animation noise.
Loaffle is a healer — her active is a save, not a hallway flex. Magni is a machine/melee magnet; the pull is for pumps and cans, not for announcing yourself. Peanut wants Boxed In plus Fleeting Presence, which is a hide input, not a sprint cancel. Luckee spins an RNG wheel — do not roll it mid-chase unless the Luckee guide is already muscle memory. Toasten is electric; assume the toaster-dog bark is loud until you prove otherwise. Nara (camera), Carie (teddy hug tank), and Shermie (Sherman tank, 4300 plus Purple Hearted) have heavier actives — learn them in lobby, not on floor 30. Full kits sit on the roster.
The F prompt next to the stamina cluster is a context action (interact, flashlight, or toon skill depending on the patch). Read the icon before you tap it. If the icon looks like a light, you are about to change how visible you are, not how fast you Repair.
Perks tray
The right-side Perks panel is not the hotbar. It is a collection of modifiers you looted. You generally do not “fire” these like a Remmy. They tick in the background. Cleaning the tray mid-zone is a luxury.
Stealth perks worth recognizing from the perk tier list: Ear Muffs suppress noise 50%, Silent Gloves and Whisper Tea add stealth. Learn those names in lobby, not while the banner is red.
Mobile specifics
Touch controls add a virtual stick and a red interact button near the noise widget. That is a dangerous neighborhood. The speaker warning and the fire/use button sit close enough that panic taps go loud. Practice in an empty lobby: move, walk, then tap a heal without hitting the red circle.
Auto-sprint toggles in Roblox settings will betray you here. Turn them off for Somni’s Engine. Raise UI scale until the machine counter and the speaker are both readable. The run checklist has a lobby box for this.
Noise-producing inputs (priority list)
- Firing Popket, Remmy, or Sparket.
- Sprinting on wood.
- Ability activations with a visible effect (Toasten’s electric, Carie’s hug, Luckee’s wheel).
- Breaking or slamming interactables.
- Jump-spam.
Repairing a pump or Extracting Ether is usually the job, not the fail. If a machine minigame includes a skill check, missing it can be louder than succeeding. Play the check, do not mash through it. Valves that clear fog are still interacts — do not slam them while the speaker is already red.
Settings worth changing
- Lower camera shake if the beta still has it; you need to see the notice banner.
- Raise UI scale on mobile until the machine counter and noise widget are both readable.
- Bind sprint to a hold, not a toggle, so you can stop instantly.
- Mute music if you cannot hear chase audio; keep SFX.
Somni Foundation has no official Discord to copy “pro binds” from. Official links are the Roblox experience and the group. Anyone selling a keybind pack is the imitator problem. Redeem codes in lobby before you ready up. If tonight is a Prism farm rather than Eclipse, leave the gun slot empty.
Once the binds feel boring, you are ready for Getting Started tactics, how to survive quotas, and starter toons. If a prompt vanishes after a restart, check known bugs before you invent a new layout. Fancy flicks do not beat a quiet Magni wrench, and they never beat a held sprint key you forgot to release.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Isle of Dreams runs.
What key repairs machines?
Equip the repair tool from the numbered hotbar and use the on-screen interact prompt (often F). See how to survive.
Why does the game say Ability on cooldown?
Your toon skill is recharging. Mashing will not help and can add noise. Check toon abilities.
How do I stop being too noisy?
Release sprint, holster Popket/Remmy/Sparket, and stand still. Full rules are on how to hide.
Can I remap controls?
Use Roblox and in-game settings. This page documents default HUD behavior, not a forced layout.
