Somni's Engine Toons
Eight Recruits from shopkeeper Somni, split by hide, fight, and support — not a fan OC sheet.
Recruits are the eight buyable kits of Somni’s Engine. Shopkeeper Somni sells them in the lobby for Prisms. This hub is the index: who they are, which wallet pays, and which child page to open next. The toon roster is the full kit sheet with actives and stats. The starter list is the buy order after you redeem Beta. Playbooks now exist for Magni, Loaffle, Toasten, and Shermie. Enemy counterparts sit on Manics.
Somni’s Engine is an open-beta Survival/Escape roguelike on the Isle of Dreams. Servers hold up to 50 players. Procedural zones ask you to Extract Ether, Repair gear pumps, Scavenge boxes, and turn Valves against fog while Manics hunt. You hide or you fight. The Recruit you buy is that choice, locked into a title, an active, and a passive.
The eight Recruits
Somni’s lobby shop, cheapest first:
- Loaffle “The Homeward” — 500 Prisms. Bread-cat healer. All stats 3. Best beginner. Playbook: how to play Loaffle.
- Magni “The Industrious” — 500 Prisms. Magnet-head with a wrench. Machine crusher and melee. Official thumbnail pair with Loaffle. Playbook: how to play Magni.
- Luckee “The Lucky” — 777 Prisms. Prize-wheel gambler. Read how to play Luckee before you spend.
- Toasten — 1000 Prisms. Toaster-dog, Loaffle’s sibling. First fight alt. Playbook: how to play Toasten.
- Peanut “The Insomniac” — 1000 Prisms. Hide scavenger. Dead weight until you can box. See how to play Peanut.
- Nara “The Observer” — 2000 Prisms. Camera kit. Extract and Sight specialist.
- Carie “The Caretaker” — 3000 Prisms. Teddy hug tank. Slow runner.
- Shermie “The Soldier” — 4300 Prisms plus the Purple Hearted badge. Sherman tank. Only badge-gated Recruit. Playbook: how to play Shermie.
Do not invent a ninth name. If a lobby silhouette is not on this list, it is not a shop Recruit.
Prisms, Scrap, and ZP
Three wallets, three shops:
- Prisms buy Recruits from Somni in the lobby. The Beta code is 500 Prisms — claim it on the codes hub. That stack buys Loaffle or Magni. It does not buy Toasten, Peanut, or Luckee.
- Scrap buys items in shop zones during a run. It does not unlock Recruits.
- ZP buys intermission perks between zones. It does not unlock Recruits.
Spending Scrap on a pistol does not replace a kit. Spending ZP on a luck perk does not make Luckee cheaper. Keep the wallets straight or you will stare at Somni with a full Scrap pouch and an empty Prism count.
Farm more Prisms with this guide after the gift is gone. Perk trays still rank on the perks list. Gear still ranks on the gear list.
Hide kits versus fight kits
The game’s own pitch is the split.
Hide column: Peanut lives here. Low HP, high Stealth, high Scavenge, Boxed In. Nara can scout without starting the fight. Loaffle keeps people alive while they stay quiet.
Fight column: Magni if you can machine-rush and melee. Toasten if you want Shocking Plug and Bravery speed. Shermie if you already beat the wandering engine. Carie soaks hits and hugs.
Wildcard: Luckee. Spin to win and Reroll! will help a hide run or ruin it. Do not pick him to figure it out later.
If your 50-player squad mixes a loud Shermie with an unboxed Peanut and nobody calls it, you will fail how to hide together. Pick a column on the tier list hub and write it on the run checklist.
The Shermie badge gate
Shermie is not a Prism check only. You must own Purple Hearted, awarded for defeating the wandering engine. That hunt sits near a 0.9% win rate with about 1111 awards. It is not a starter errand. Beat the engine first, then bring 4300 Prisms.
Project Eclipse (Moonie), the floor-30 fusion of Inkchor and Ether, grants Witness Eclipse. That badge does not buy a Recruit. Eclipse is Somni’s Manic counterpart. Manics exist as enemy versions of Recruits; they are not extra shop kits. The hunter list is Manics. Deep floors that spawn Manic Shermie sit on deep zones.
What to open next
- New account: Getting Started, then best starters.
- You already bought a 500-Prism kit: Play Magni or Play Loaffle, then the toon roster for the numbers.
- You bought Peanut too early: Play Peanut and how to hide.
- Fight climb: Play Toasten, then Play Shermie after Purple Hearted.
- Hunters and depth: Manics and deep zones. Patch week: updates hub. Somni Foundation has no Trello and no official Discord — see official links.
Shopkeeper Somni will still be standing after you clear a quota. A Recruit does not skip Zone 1. Learn machines, noise, and Something Noticed You on a 500-Prism kit, then spend up the shop.
