How to Play Peanut in Somni's Engine
The Insomniac is a box, a scavenger, and a liability until hide is automatic.
Peanut “The Insomniac” is the hide Recruit of Somni’s Engine. 1000 Prisms from shopkeeper Somni. Veterans are not being cute: learn hide or you are dead weight, and even a Blob can kill you. This guide is the playbook after you ignored (or finished) the starter list. Kit numbers live on the toon roster. The stealth rules that actually keep Peanut alive live on how to hide.
Do not buy Peanut with a Beta leftover fantasy. Beta is 500 Prisms. Peanut is 1000. Farm the rest with how to farm Prisms, then come back.
The kit, without the mascot read
- HP 2, Stamina 2, Walk 2, Run 4, Stealth 5, Strength 1, Repair 3, Extract 3, Scavenge 5, Sight 4.
- Active Boxed In: box form, -50% speed, +50% resist, +5 stealth, and +10 stealth if you stay still. Reverts when you get hit. 10s cooldown.
- Passive Trembling Grip: -2 Accuracy. You are not a shooter.
- Fleeting Presence: extra noise reduction while you stay quiet.
Scavenge 5 is the job: boxes, loot routes, the Scavenge machines. Strength 1 is the warning: you do not win a melee. HP 2 is the death sentence if you treat a Blob (50 HP chaser) like a tutorial dummy.
Boxed In - when to press it
Boxed In is not invisibility. It is a stance.
Press it when:
- The speaker is climbing and you can reach a corner in one walk.
- Something Noticed You just fired and you still have line-of-sight cover.
- A teammate is the bait and you need to become furniture.
- You are camping a Scavenge box and the room is not clear.
Do not press it when:
- You still need to cross a hallway. -50% speed in a corridor is a gift to chasers.
- A Blob already has you. The box reverts on hit; the first slap deletes the form and your HP 2 pool is next.
- You want to “tank” because +50% resist looks like armor. Resist is not HP 8. Shermie tanks. Peanut hides.
Stationary bonus is the real active. +5 stealth moving in the box is a downgrade if you keep shuffling. Plant. Count to three. If the hunter’s path is a straight line at you, you planted in the wrong furniture.
Cooldown is 10s. After a revert-on-hit, you are a slow, loud, 2 HP toon until the box is back. That window is when squads wipe because the Peanut panics into a sprint. Walk. Holster. Wait.
Noise, Fleeting Presence, and the HUD
Peanut’s stealth 5 and Fleeting Presence only pay while you are quiet. Sprint, shoot, or slam a Valve and you are paying a 1000-Prism tax to print Too noisy! like a default kit.
Rules that matter more on Peanut than on Loaffle:
- Walk 2 is already slow. Use Run 4 only to break a room, then stop. Run is a relocate, not a lifestyle.
- Sight 4 lets you peek before you enter. Use it. Boxed In after you round a corner blind is how Blobs get a free hit.
- Trembling Grip means a pistol is a noise toy. Holster. The gear list already parks guns in the fight column.
- Repair 3 and Extract 3 are serviceable. You can finish pumps and Ether Extractors. You should not be the only Magni-substitute on a 50-player floor.
If the speaker is red, do not start a Scavenge animation. The box does not cancel a noisy job.
Scavenge 5 is the quota, not a loot hobby
Zones ask for Extract, Repair, Scavenge, and Valves. Peanut’s outlier is Scavenge 5. Take the boxes. Call them. Split from the Magni on pumps and the Nara on Ether.
Loot on the way out of a finished box, not on the way in. A Scavenge 5 kit that dies in a loot pile is still a dead kit. The survive guide is the quota loop; this page only adds “you are the box person.”
Do not steal Repair from Magni because you are bored. Do not “help” Shermie melee. Your Strength is 1. Help is finishing the third Scavenge so the floor can end.
Do not fight Blobs
Blobs are 50 HP chasers. Peanut is HP 2, Strength 1, -2 Accuracy. That fight is not a skill check. It is a donation.
If a Blob notices you:
- Break line of sight. Do not turn and swing.
- Boxed In only after you have a corner, then go still.
- If the Blob is already in melee range, you already lost the box. Walk a beam, do not ego-sprint.
- Let Toasten, Magni, or Shermie take the contact if they called fight. You are not the interrupt.
Manics are worse. They are enemy counterparts of Recruits. A Peanut who tries to 1v1 a Manic is the reason squads mute hide callouts. If the floor is Project Eclipse (Moonie), you are not the Eclipse carry. You are the quiet body that does not feed the beam.
Perks that match the box
Intermission perks cost ZP, not Prisms. For Peanut, take the quiet column on the perks list:
- Light Footed - movement that does not feed the speaker. This is the kit.
- Ambush - pays when you plant and let a hunter walk past the box, not when you chase.
- Hyper Alert - Sight 4 wants more warning, not more bravado.
Skip fight reflect toys (those are Magni / Ferro Thorn). Skip luck wheels (those are Luckee). Skip anything that auto-makes noise. ZP spent on a radio is how an Insomniac becomes a beacon.
Squad job
On the run checklist, write “Peanut = boxes + plant.” One sentence. If your stack already has a Peanut who cannot box, do not buy a second one to “learn together.” Learn on Loaffle, then swap in the lobby.
Call “boxing” before you press the active so Magni does not wrench-swing the furniture. Call “reverted” when a hit pops you out so Carie can hug or Loaffle can Aroma. Peanut without callouts is camouflage that still screams in text chat after the wipe.
Practice the box in easy quotas until the 10s cooldown is a rhythm. Then, and only then, Peanut is a Recruit instead of a 1000-Prism apology. If you wanted a random item instead of a box, that is how to play Luckee, a different 777-Prism problem. Until the box clicks, stay on the Toons Hub and spend the next Prism stack on a kit that forgives you.
